Q: How can I best support my child on the day of the Lap-A-Thon?
A: Come and cheer them on! We have posted the event day schedule on this website so that you can see the time that your child will be running. We encourage everyone to come out and watch the event. We have great music, spray water bottles to cool down the kids and plenty of "day of" volunteer opportunities for you to jump in on. It is always helpful for a child to see their parent, family friend or caretaker supporting them from the sidelines so come on out!
Q: I have a younger sibling...can they come?
A: YES! We love younger siblings. What better view of the event than in a stroller seat? Popsicles and Clif Bars after the race will be shared with them as well.

Q: What happens if my child is tired or feels scared on the day of the Lap-A-Thon?
A: The most important aspect of the day is that all children feel welcome and have fun! All children are encouraged to walk and rest as needed during the event. This year we have two parent volunteers who are nurses who will be setting up a quilt and rest area for those who feel they need it. In addition, our fabulous Wade Thomas teachers are participating in the event as well so there is always a comfortable hand to hold if a child get nervous. Finally, parents are always welcome to walk or run alongside their children.
Q: How long do the children walk/run for?
A: The children run for approximately 20-30 minutes depending on their grade level.
Q: How far are the children running?
A: On the morning of the event, orange cones are set up in an oval on the upper playground. The size of the oval is smaller for the K/1st graders so they are running shorter "laps" than than the 2nd-5th graders.
Q: What happens if my child is absent the day of the Lap-A-Thon?
A: We have found that most donors understand the situation. If your donors have chosen to support your child by giving for every lap completed, you can ask that they change their donation type to a one time, flat rate amount. A Lap-A-Thon t-shirt will be ready and waiting for your child when they return to school.
Q: What should my child wear the day of the event?
A: Please have your child wear clothes that are comfortable for running in: shorts, t-shirt, socks and running shoes work best! We will provide every student runner with a Wade Thomas Lap A Thon 2012 tshirt. The t-shirt is designed by the student winner of our t-shirt contest.
Q: How did this event get started?
A: Honestly, we don't really know. Based on parent notes, we can see that this event goes back to the early 90s. Each of the Ross Valley School District hosts an annual fundraiser. Manor has the Winter Carnival, Brookside and Hidden Valley have the Octoberfest..and Wade Thomas has the Lap-A-Thon!
Q: To whom should all checks be made out to?
A: Checks should be made out to Wade Thomas Parents Association.
Q: Can a donor submit one check for multiple runners?
A: No. Please do submit separate amounts for each runner. If you cannot avoid the single check - please have the donor make the check out to you personally and you can provide cash for each runners pledge envelope. Your class Lap-A-Thon coordinator will thank you!
